One of the most likely causes for damage to a vehicle’s clutch is a driver’s bad habits. Namely, some drivers form the habit of resting their foot on their clutch pedal, which while it doesn’t necessarily impact the driving experience, because the pressure is so negligible, but the steady pressure can still grind away at your clutch. The clutch operates by shifting between engaged and disengaged modes, but by resting your foot on the peddle you are keeping it partially engaged, which can cause serious problems. This habit is known as ‘riding the clutch’, and can cause a potentially dangerous and expensive malfunction. As it wears the clutch away, it can stop working and depending upon the timing of it ceasing to function you could cause an accident as well. Thankfully, it is usually a progression to it stopping to work, so you should have enough time to take your vehicle to a mechanics.
